I have heard and even seen one (years ago) where someone took parts from a VW Rabbit or whatever and had a nice CIS system on a Type4 2.0. He liked it, said it was a little more tunable and produced more power. Sure it can be done, but for the cost and work involved, I would go with a Mega Squirt system. More power and probably not all that much more money.

never heard of the mega squirt is it like sds?i happened to have a crap load and a half of cis. the only reason i ask is my fi is not working right so i figured i would go with what i know. hmm now the wheels are turning, i like the idea of cis over carbs.perhaps that will be the route ill take.
any other thoughts on the subject?

megasquirt is probably the cheapest solution, but you have to build it on your own ...

the Kit Carlson FI will be a nice bolt-on package once it's completed ...

Ed V put CIS on his 914 before he turbo'd it. He used the Miller FI setup. http://www.sandrail.com/millerfi/

EJM914 did a home-brew CIS for his 914 turbo install as well.

Wasn't there someone who used a CIS from an older Volvo. I think I remember the Volvo was a 1.9 engine?

I could have been high smile.gif

Well, before you give up on you stock FI system, check out your injectors and make sure your hoses are not leaking, clean your electrical connections, and basic stuff like that.

But if you want to play around and maybe dig up a little more power, have fun and let us know how it is going. Gerard, a local Phoenix owner, went with Megasquirt with good success. He also went with a new cam at the same time and he has a STRONG 2.0
