I picked up a set of 951 Fuchs today, 7&8 x 16. They are ugly, which is fine by me as I would like to have them blasted and do an RSR finish.
Search tells me that they have been fit to narrow body cars, but I would like to know what must be done in the rear to make them fit. I would also appreciated pictures and get some insight on tire sizing as well as ideas for spacers for the front.

It can be tough to fit 7s under stock fenders. I think 8s would be impossible. Of course, tire sizes and alignment settings and the exact offset of the wheels make a difference, as well as individual chassis differences. So it's never quite safe to say "impossible"...
Be prepared to have to modify the rear fenders to at least some extent. They may need to be pulled or rolled outward, or possibly even cut and patched.

You just need to roll the fenders. Esatwood makes one that will work with a little tweeking.

I probably should have stated that I am at a cross-road right now. I have AA repro flares. I have a set of 911 6&7 x 16 Fuchs as well as the 944 set. I can probably pull off whatever combination I want to try. However, I LOVE the look of HaroldD's car.

They look rolled it that pic... I have been told you can stretch them a full inch with the roller.

Harold's 914-6 is awesome, but if lowered he would be rubbing, I had them on a 914 that was low , I started with 7's a bit of fender rolling with a 1x2 wood board, A while later switch to the 16x8 951's and had to go a bit more same method. I don't know if the roller would work as the rear fender is not a true radius.

Finally found a pic of what it takes to run em, 245/45x16 951's, the burnt paint is from years of different wheel combos.
FYI my car now restored to stock.

I made these for my sons Golf and I ended up with because he had to have 17's ???
16x6's widened to 7.5.. 1.5 inch added to the inside and a spacer.......7's would be perfect,

With the flares you can put 8" on each corner with no problem. I have even seen 9" on the rear with the right tire combo.

The 951 Fuchs have a different offset and may work ok, (tire size is everything) if you notice the lug nut holes are recessed and the 7" wheel for the front look more like a 6" 911 wheel on the face, and the same for the rear 8"...looks more like a 7" 911 most of the extra width is on the backside...so it's back to some 914's will accept 911 7" at the rear and some won't and it crazy from side to side.

I put 7x15 and 8x15 on my 74. Had to pound out the rear fenders to work.

how wide are Harold's rear rims though?
here are 7inch fuchs with 911 offset
(different offset)
these have 1 inch spacers and still plenty of room
I have test fit 8's on the car and honestly might be able to run 8's with some spacer
but the fenders are VERY worked over and not stock at all:

If it were a '73 2.0 in completely original condition with no rust, I wouldn't even consider it. Since it is a '75 1.8 that will need some rust repair and will probably never be all that valuable, the dark side seems like more fun

Just messing with ya Ken. I have to admit I really like the slight flaring and big tires. I bet those meaty tires are pretty nice in the corners as well. Post pics as your project proceeds.

Just a thought on the 8s.
The only company making 245/45-16 tires is Bridgestone. They make them in the RE8 line, and they are about $500.00 a tire, and you will have a bitch of a time getting Discount tire to even admit that they are available. I had to find them online, and take the printout down to Discount tire. Even then the manager had to fight with the Bridgestone ordering department, because they couldn't find them in the catalog. Then I had to wait almost a month because they are a limited production run and were back-ordered.

Yeah - these are 951 rims in 7x16 ET 23,3 and 8x16 ET 23,3 in the back. Tire sizes are 195/50/16 and 205/55/16. I get the wheels anodized like the originals (15") - it looks real good..

Where did you get it?!
I only have 16x6 with 205 tires all around, but the 951 offset 7" are cooler looking.

Thanks, Clay, but I think that 245s would be out of the question on a narrow body. I didn't think that 8" rims would be possible until I found the pics of Harold's car.
After reading all of the much appreciated responses, I believe that I am going to give the 8s a try in the back with 205/55s. I know that I am going to have to do some pulling/rolling, but if it looks do-able, why not? If the 8"s don't work, I will put 911 7"s on the rear and the 951 7"s up front.
When/if I decide to put the flares on, I will use the 951 8"s on the rear and probably the 911 7"s on the front.
Of course, I still need to actually do the 5 bolt conversion, for which the parts have been sitting on my shelves for quite a while.

i tried to fit 8-&-10 x18 turbo twists under my flared GT - NO-GO
the later wheels have much more offset toward the chassis - even with huge spacers it could not be done

Dave, see Harold's response above. That is what he is running, and they look rather perpendicular to the rim. Should not be a problem.

That is the beauty of the 951 Fuchs - they have the early offset, 23.3. Later 944 turbos had the late offset which is much deeper and won't work on a narrow body 914.
To be honest, my favorite Porsche wheel is the cup, but the only option for those in an early offset are repros which are crazy heavy.
