wow!!! are you going to coat the piping?
jimkelly
so at what rpm does the turbo kick in?

what mm jugs you got?

how much boost you plan on running? I assume 914 jugs can only take so much B.

forged pistons?

h rods?

what octane will it need?

she will need an oil cooler for sure? ** never mind, i see the fan that is cooling stock oil cooler, nice placement : )

all the best, she looks lovely : )

jim
ChrisFoley
Looks like it will kick ass!
Way to go.

But a flat fan and a remote (no stock) oil cooler would have been cooler, I'm just sayin'.

So is that a 2270 TURBOED Raby engine per your signature line...? This is getting out of hand people...might as well not even say "the phrase" any more.

Looks awesome. Love the upright fan shroud.
JeffBowlsby
Does that fit in the engine bay? It looks so tall! The exhaust come off the turbo and routes how...right by the battery or does the battery get moved?
McMark
Tested that already. biggrin.gif Needs a GT lid, but it works.
moparrob
Wait, I thought you couldn't turbo a 914..

It is not absolutely necessary. I once built a headers that came out pretty nice with a MIG. That said, I've done a few more with a TIG which were much nicer. If you are very good with a MIG and have never used a TIG the MIG exhaust will probably look better! smile.gif

The turbo install looks pretty nice! I'm interested to see it running.

Kudos and good luck biggrin.gif

This is pretty awesome! popcorn[1].gif

Cant wait to see her run!

I saw this at Original Customs. It is in even cleaner looking than the pictures show... I said OMG! Mark kept this secret for a long time... Nice work! w00t.gif

That looks great. Any idea what it puts out?
Chris Pincetich
Are the roller rockers in there the same idea/concept/part as the roller cam + lifters?
I was watching TIV guru guy develop and test that w great interest but they seem to be restricted to his custom TIV builds only.

McMark is forcefully inducing 914world to stop blowing hot air, cooling us back to reality and boosting new inspirations w his work beerchug.gif

PLEASE drive this turbo project for a while before trying to blow it up! biggrin.gif

The part that is in contact with the top of the valve is a roller. It still uses conventional tappets. The roller cam idea/concept is totally different and does not use conventional tappets.

I hope to make this motor last as long as possible!!

What is a "Turbo" Nickie?

The cylinder walls are probably (at least) twice as thick as a normal Nickie cylinder. More sealing surface.

It's a custom one-off piece I made. Normally you don't run a stock oil cooler with the dtm.

So these are the newest Pauter rockers with oiling reliefs?
Were they necessary to achieve a desired geometry or just a cool bonus?

No. They don't have the oiling passages. Basically just a cool bonus and it sure is too bad all the cool looking stuff gets covered up!!
monkeyboy
Aren't those the rockers that Raby kept breaking after a couple of thousand miles?

I'd hate to see that motor go boom.
aircooledtechguy
Looks good!! Nice job Mark!! beerchug.gif

2 years since last bump on the thread...what gives? :0

What a coincidence. I just took it for a spin around the block. I have not had time to work on it much, obviously. A little update since the last post. I added a PMS oil cooler up front. Removed the stock cooler as I think that was the source of my oiling troubles. Now it is in dire need of a dyno tune. I'm thinking of going to MS... jury still out.
