I have a tranny problem.

I have not got more than a couple of miles on the entire restoration and the last problem to fix is that the car will not stay in first gear.

I started assuming it was a linkage adjustment problem, so I kept putting it off and got the car going in 2nd.

Well now that I look closer, I think it is either a transmission problem, or an interference issue.
When I put it in first and begin to let the clutch out, the tranny actually pushes the linkage out of gear.
If I try to hold it in gear with my hand, it grinds and pushes it out anyway.

Here is a picture of it in 1st at the shift console.

Is that bronze bushing keeping me from getting it all the way in gear?
I hope it is that simple grinding that down a bit would be easy.
Otherwise what can cause the tranny to do this?

I had both my tailshift & this tranny cores out to look at them (following Dr. Evil's video).
I did not see any excessive wear on the 1st gear dogteeth but I'm not sure if I got good pictures.

The bushing is in backwards. Don't grind it.

Excellent!
Thank you!

I knew that waiting for an answer was the right thing to do....
