I was told to throw away the seals for the push rods that come in the gasket set because they are junk. I ordered a set of Viton seals about 6 months ago from AA. They are black. I thought the Vitons were a brownish color, but then again, Jakes video shows them as green. Which way do I go?

I just installed Viton seals and they were green.

That's what I mean. I ordered Viton and got 8 seals all black. IPB Image WTF? I'm not going to put them in until I know for sure.

The following link has a photo and list of most of the seals and gaskets required for a rebuild. It has the part number for the brown Viton push rod tube seals as

Push rod tube o-rings 021 109 345VK 16 piece $14.95 Brown Viton

Hope this helps.

I bought the same exact kit but was told to ditch the push rod tube seals. Why does it have to be this way????

I've had bad luck with the seals from the gasket kit, but the last time I tried them >10 yrs ago. They leaked within a matter of months. I've built a couple engines since then. Last time was 2 years ago. I got the set fron Perf. Prod. They are brown (inner and outter) $20. No problems. I think brown means they are viton. I've also bought them from the Porsche dealer which were a shiney red which also were good. I believe those were silicone.

Allan - did you order your seal kit from Pelican? I just finished rebuilding and installing my 1973 2.0 engine using that seal kit. Half of the PR seals were green and half - ??? I can't remember.

Are you other guys suggesting that those PR seals in the Pelican kit will fail?

Cheers,
Nate

I have bought green, black and brown viton seals over the years. They all work about the same. If you were sold viton seals, they should be fine.

No, I got the kit from GPR but it was a Victor-Reinz kit so it will have the same parts in it. Has both green and black push rod tube seals. Just to make sure, I ordered a set of brown vitons from GPR today. $1.20 ea. IPB Image

Set comes with green and black seals. If it's a Victor-Reinz kit it has the same stuff in it no matter where you buy it. I got mine from GPR. Went ahead and ordered a set of brown vitons today from GPR.
