I missed out on scoring a 2.0 flat six with carbs and trans (out of a 67 911 targa) that a guy was selling for $1,500.00 but got some wheels as a consolation prize. The seller owned a body shop and said that the car was just too rusty to save. I'm trying not to think about what his idea of too rusty might have been.

Anyway, when I got to the shop the engine was sitting there and as I approached with interest the guy that had beaten me there quickly closed the deal. He seemed like a man of means and knowledge so the engine probably ended up in good hands.

I didn't leave empty handed though.

After educating myself a little, I believe I have 3 real Fuchs 6x15 Flats and 1 Questionable "Deep Six"

Note that it does have the "heart" but its hard to see in this picture

Any thoughts on Real or Reproduction here?

I'm hoping to get another Flat 6x15 and have a set that I can use on my car at some point later on down the road.

Need to see more on the deep 6.

Inside the backside of the paddles... any markings?

Hearts are best seen from the back side as well.

I can't make out any markings on the inside of the paddles. Its still kind of dirty but I'm pretty sure there is nothing there.

Not all deep sixes have hearts.

Hard to say and I'm not the uber educated wheel guy. The paint line looks correct, hard to imagine a fakes going to that extent. You'll want to wash it up and look for a triangle with a P in it and a little Fox (Fuchs) head stamped in it. They usually have a 6J x 15 there as well and, if you can clean it up, there may be in ink stamp in the anodized aluminum with remnants of a part number.

I just noticed it was a larger image. I clicked on it and got a really good close up of the back of the paddles. I'd vote Fakes right now...

7 /67 is the manufacture date 7 month 67 year

make sure its not a 7R wheel

Real Fuch sell it on 911S registry

Identified by the deep rim upstand, about 42mm, and the web on the back face and no hump

I saw that ad 10mins after it was posted on the Craigslist. Started to call but figured I had too many projects already.

Very interested in this. How do you tell real Fuchs from fakes that look just like them? Looking at a car (online) that has Fuchs. What should I ask to see from the owner or where to look to have him take a picture of to determine if they are real or not?

Just like Eric said - "look for a triangle with a P in it and a little Fox (Fuchs) head stamped in it."
tumamilhem
Where will this triangle be located? And what is the "heart" you refer to? I don't see either on these. Am I not seeing it or looking in the wrong place?
sixnotfour
On a 67 Fuchs it was an ink stamp, A wheel in the condition pictured above I am pretty sure it is long gone..

Go with what Jeff says here... He's seen many more of these wheels than I have. The paint line looked weird to me where it meets the center but, again, there's a lot of work put into it if it were a fake. So... Looks like this is your lucky day.

Nice. Thanks for the tip! beerchug.gif

I've seen fake Fuchs but not fake Fuchs with hearts. Not to say they might not exist but certainly not common. Hearts go for GOOD money

I have seen people weld on Hearts...

As prices rise, fakes will increase.

Thanks for the input everyone! beerchug.gif I'll post some more photos when I get them cleaned up a little.

I cleaned the wheel in question up a little and found some very faint remains of what appears to be a purple stamp. I don't think it's a 7R, doesn't appear to be wide enough. Is there such thing as a 6R? or did they just use a standard deep six on the front of the 911r?
Eric_Shea
Thar she blows! Can you read any of it? That's probably good for $5-600.00 bucks.
