I am contemplating buying a 901 to hold me through till I can get a 915 and slap a sideshifter on it.

The trans I have now has a busted bell housing(dunno how that happened) and about all the synchros are like oatmeal but I can still manage it into all gears.

I am thinking that I could buy a cheap 901 and slap it in and go but one never knows what the hell is wrong with a trans that you havent actually driven.

Is there any thing to look for if you pull the covers or am I just wishful thinking?

TIA

The bellhousings break when somebody forgets to install the 2 drive pins for the axle... it then comes off while they are driving and it hits the starter.(unless its the other side)

The only thing you can see by pulling the rear cover off is 1st and reverse. You would have to pull the intermediate plate out.
