Hi Everyone,
I'm adjusting my valves for the first time after an engine rebuild with about 500 miles.

I'm using a starter switch and rotating the engine until the exhaust valve on #3 is fully open. Then I go to the other side of the car and adjust the #1 exhaust valve to .006. to where I can't get a .007 gauge in.

When I rotate the engine to some random position I can get a .010 gauge in the #1 exhaust valve. It seems to be loosening up. The nut is tight. I've repeated this process 5 or 6 times with the same result.

Since #1 and #3 use the same cam lobe, when one valve is open then the opposite valve must be closed.

I'm sure I'm rotating the engine so the valve is fully open.

Is my process correct?

BTW it's a stock 1.7 with FI and it runs good.

Thanks

I have noticed the same thing on my car. And that's why I have always been a bit suspicious of the Cap'n's method.
