Ok.. I have a question for those of you who have a six.

The filler neck on my six oil tank has never fit just right. It always seems a bit loose and floppy (no jokes here guys, I am serious). I was trying to replace the rubber connector between it and the tank, and it doesn't seem right either. And the last thing that has me questioning this is it always seems like I have too much oil in the tank when I fill it to the mark on the dipstick. The dipstick, tank and filler neck are all factory Porsche parts.

The rubber boot does not reach the bulge in the filler neck, and the assembly has always looked wrong. My question...

Is the filler neck supposed to slide into the tank opening, or does it just butt up against the tank? All the evidence I have with the oil level and the filler flopping around make me think it should slide into the opening on the tank. But it doesn't quite fit inside.

after a bit of digging I found some pics that may help. the rubber sleeve has a lip inside at the halfway point as a stop. do you have the clamp seen it these pictures?

No, I have two small flathead screw clamps. Yours looks much more solid than mine with that clamp. I am going to check with my parts supplier.

I had no luck finding a source for this clap but pelican and stoddard both offer a standard clamp, one at the tank side and one for the neck

I want one of those clamps too. Anyone have a source for them?

Here is a 911 neck and you need two hose clamps and a thick hose, If the area before the bead roll is the same diameter all the way up to the bead then either
clamp system will work and be stable as it goes deeper into the tank neck and is a 914-6 filler neck......

That is what I was saying in my first post. Mine won't go into the tank neck. It butts up flush with the tank neck.

Guess I know now that it is supposed to slide inside the tank neck.

I got out in the garage, and refitted the oil filler neck on the tank. Seems the tank had been dinged slightly, and it closed down the neck on it. So I opened it back up, and now my oil filler is not floppy. (And it's a slow hanging curve ball over the plate....... ).

Does that mean your oil has always been slightly overfilled.

Yep.. and that explains why there was always oil on the left side of the motor. I was filling it to the full line, and it was making a mess.

Can you use a 911 oil filler neck and dipstick if you secure to the tank properly?

It’s really better just to use the correct part. The orientation is a bit different on a 911 filler neck.

Lots of the parts for the 914-6 conversion are tough to find....especially the factory parts.
I was able to find the wide clamp for the 914-6 oil filler from these folks.
They have a lot of 914/911 parts, so you can try them.
Always nice used parts at a fair price.
In no way affiliated....just have used them on a number of occasions.
It's best to call them on the phone although I've had good luck just emailing them as well.

OEM clamp and rubber collar
The clamp is stamped 'NORMA schellen' 54 (mm) which is the diameter
The width is 25mm or 1"

What makes this clamp special is the wide 1" width.
Tough to locate these.
