Full Version: Exhaust for stock 1.7

Always Looking
I know there is a general consensus on Bilsteins for the suspension. Is there a similar consensus for exhaust? I have a stock 1972 1.7 FI. Now I have a monza four tip exhaust of unknown quality (it seems too loud) with three of the four chrome tips cut off (from PO). I am pre-smog and use the car as a weekend driver (and hopefully an autoX or two per year).

I am attempting to copy this design for my 1.7 Just finished doing a side shifter swap on the transaxle. Once the Mega Squirt unit is installed and tuned, I get to start the fun!!!

What about the compression of the non-73 1.7 engines? I was all convinced that I wanted to do the same thing to my 1.7 until someone pointed out that unless its a 73 1.7 it has higher compression ratio. Is this really critical? Otherwise I was planning on turboing my 75 1.8 engine which has low compression..

it all depends on the amount of boost. if its wild lower compression might be good IPB Image

really simple exhaust design, i want to try a type4 turbo some day

8.2/1 CR is not THAT high. It's like jd74914 was saying, as long as you keep the boost down, it's not that critical. I will only be looking for 8-10psi boost.

The other thing is that I will be running Mega Squirt. The brain will take an input from a knock sensor...MUHAHAHAHA IPB Image
