Trying to remove my muffler shield I cut the bracket on each end

What else is holding it?
ThePaintedMan
Couple of bolts as well.

Pretty sure there are six; two,two and two
On early cars or sixes they are held by sheet metal screws in the trunk.

Looked in the trunk no screws or bolts
I just see what looks like spot welds between

The tailight and the lock on each side the car is a 73

there are tabs spotwelded in the center as well. I removed one for a customer a while back and had to use a zip wheel cutting from inside the truck.

No nuts or bolts were holding this one on.

Mine is slowly coming off of its own accord. I don't carry ice cream in the rear trunk. Any other hazard? Muffler is new.

Paint the underside of the trunk with VHT high-temp paint. It works great as an insulator and will help keep the trunk cooler. I remember reading about a race team years ago that painted the fire wall of the car with VHT and it lowered the cockpit temp. 15 degrees. biggrin.gif

Confirmed, six spacer tabs with 2 spot welds each. I replaced the trunk rear panel and was able to cut away the spot welds and save the heat shield. Mine is now pop riveted with SS rivets
