Full Version: Rear trunk lid restoration

My first two hoods (rear) were too far gone to repair. The rust worm had done extensive damage. Is this due to the foam? in the bottom? For those of you that completed the restoration on the rear trunk lid did you remove the foam? Or something else?

Thanks

foam?

Far from being an expert but I've been told that the factory applied a foam between the trunk skin and the supporting cross-braces. Not sure why this was done, maybe to prevent flutter or rattles between the two components at speed? In any event often trapped moisture in the voids between the foam and metal surfaces started the rusting process.
