I'd like to add a page in the magazine dedicated to listing engine numbers that people are actively looking for, and/or have available. Maybe it will help someone find the original engine for their car. I am still working out the details of how it will work. Ideally, it would be as simple as:

My concern is that people won't want their email address listed in the print magazine. What do you think?

Hi Steve - Great idea - is there a way to direct them to 914world.com to post their result? I guess we all give an email we rarely use. Ultimately, if someone had my Six engine case I would want to know it so they could hopefully be reunited. Great way to help us all out BTW. I am looking for Six engine 6414135

Great Idea, as I would like to have my original 2.0L for my car, oh wait, no I wouldn't. I get the idea though, it would be hard to maintain, and should live in a digital world thats just me though.

Having their contact info in the magazine would be the most direct/effective approach. I just wasn't sure how people would feel about printing their email addresses. If they don't like that, I think I have an idea how to set it up otherwise.

Just use their 914world usernames in the magazine. That way people can PM them here and you won't have to reveal any email addresses.

I agree. But, we have subscribers that may not be very active in 914world. I think there is some value to having it printed and right there where they can read it and not have to do anything else but contact the person. I'd like to reach even the people that aren't online a lot, but, have that 914-6 engine out back. :-) I think I have a solution.

The PCA's Panorama uses email addresses and phone numbers. Your mag is not public domain like a standard periodical.

I would not be too worried about it. My email is in my signature. Spam filters and key word rules work great. I block anything that has viagra as an example. In a few years I may need some and can cancel the rule.

I like the idea, but don't think a low volume mag is the best method.

World has roughly 18k past and present owners in it's reach. Andy could setup a database that is google searchable expanding it to everyone. With a little self promotion (article) it could put into PCA newsletters and Pano. A phone call or visit to your mechanic gets them involved. Maybe Porsche will share their database of matching numbers.

Enough engines have been swapped over the years that an online searchable database like the VIN could be quite useful to restorers.
