I posted about buying this car last fall. the thread is here
http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?sho...ssible+purchase

It's a 1974 2.0 that I decided to let sit in my mother's garage over the winter until I could figure out if i was going to go pick it up or have it it shipped. It turned out to just be less of a hassle to have it shipped. I listed it on Uship, got a bid i was happy with, and the car should be delivered this Friday or Saturday. I'm really excited to get this thing here and give it a once over. I've never seen the car in person so hopefully there are no nasty surprises waiting for me. updates will follow later this week

Congratulations! How is it?

Well, I don't have it yet. should be here Friday or Saturday. I do know the parking brake is stuck after sitting over the winter. Besides taking care of that, the first order of business will be removing that front air dam. I'm not a fan.

Needs a few things but pretty clean looking. Watch out for dips in the road, spoiler might last too long.

Spoiler will be one of the first things to go. Not a big fan

Snow is coming, keep it close by for winter.

List that spoiler in the classifieds - someone will want it. Nice looking car BTW. smilie_pokal.gif

Pretty happy with this car. i only had about 30 minutes to look it over after it was delivered before I had to leave the house, but overall it seems to be a really solid driver. The interior is a little bit rattier than expected. the good part is dash is crack free and the ugly seats turned out to just be seat covers that were hiding really nice stock brown seats. The dash face vinyl is peeling, the carpet needs replacing and the rear window has a less than stellar tint job on it. The one thing that is kind of a bummer is the car was originally Signal Orange. I don't mind the red and it has a good older paint job on it but I am a dead up sucker for an orange car. Knowing that the car I own was originally one of my favorite 914 colors just stings a little bit. I'll investigate a little more this weekend.

+1 for back dating to orange.

I did a little more digging into the car today. I didn't expect to get a rust free car from the northeast but i'm not sure how bad it is. it seems solid everywhere but under the passenger side rocker. you guys can be the judge of how bad it is. the front floors, and all the jack points seem solid. I haven't pulled the battery but i can't see any real problems in that area. this car has been painted at some point so it probably had some rust issues addressed at that point. I bought the car sight unseen and I didn't know it had a center console. it was just sitting in the passenger footwell and i loosely installed it just for the photos. I realize it's not the same as the factory set up but it was a nice surprise. I also thought the seats had been redone but it turns out they are just covers. The parking brake seems to be stuck on. the lever goes u p and down but i can't push the car when it's not in gear. I did drive it around the block and i'm looking forward to being able to get it out on a longer drive. Any tips to get the parking brake unstuck?

Heavy undercoating means you might find more surprises. sad.gif

Time to start poking around with a screwdriver.

Thats exactly what i did. everything around that area seems solid

nice looking 914!

Give that screw driver a bit of pressure... I am betting it'll go through in some of the places that "looks" solid

I learned a valuable lesson from the experts here... It might look solid but give it a thorough test.

The fact that you have a hole that size in the left long would suggest that the other side of it is just as bad... that area ties into your suspension console.

I am still debating on which direction to go... attempt a repair or buy a lesser rusted tub.

Your car looks in better shape so hopefully you'll get lucky and it will not be so bad...

Here is the other side

Start digging and figure out what happened to the jack post. Hopefully not just bondo or fiberglass.

Or just drive it and enjoy.

That's a plan I can get behind. =)

Check your parking brake cables. See if they are freely moving on both sides. They actuate levers on the calipers. The pistons may be stuck. You can tackle the calipers next or Eric at PMB performance is your next move.

I'm in the same boat with the parking brake. I knew it had stuck so didn't use it until a couple days ago and I thought I'd try it again - what's that Einstein quote about doing the same thing expecting different results... insanity? So it's stuck again. It's the same wheel for me and if I take off the wheel and tap the caliper and hand brake lever it unsticks. I've already talked to PMB and plan to send all my calipers to them - hoping to be able to wait until Fall but we'll see. Great looking car - love that dual exhaust!
