Hi all,

Just a quick hypothetical... If I managed to get a hold of 2.5L subie motor from an automatic, would that motor work with a manual subie gear box?

You need another Flywheel.

Hi Josh,
There should be no problems swapping automatic for manual trans. The only thing (not sure) you might need a difference engine ecu for manual trans especially if the engine and trans ecu is one complete unit. There are after market ecu's out there that will work with a plus side to it too. After market like "Stinger", can be dialed in for your car specifications and needs.

Good luck

And, of course, you'd need new head gaskets every few years... rolleyes.gif

Nah, no more often than T4 motors drop exhaust valves.

You can use the OEM ECU. You'll need to ground 1-2 wires to raise the idle speed. You will need to wire 2 of the 4 wire's coming off the VSS sender on the tranny back to the ECU.

Well, the reason I ask is that it's possible my daily driver Subaru may be totaled from hail damage, and I JUST shelled out a bunch of money on a head gasket job less than two months ago... Maybe take the total if I can get a replacement, then I've got a scooby motor for the teener???

Sounds like a good plan. If you were going to use the 901 I have the conversion stuff for that in the classifieds. I would go for the suby tranny though if choosing between the 2. The 901 will certainly work & is a good cheap temporary solution. Once you drove one with a suby trans you wouldn't want o go back though evilgrin.gif

agree.gif If you gut your Suby don't get in a hurry to get rid of the carcass. There are many items besides the engine that you'll want to use later.
