What kind of piston rings are you running on your JE Racing 96.0 stroker pistons? I'm building a 2258cc. It looks like most of the kits use Hastings rings. EMW has NPR they sell. Has anyone used Deves or Total Seal rings? Do you have feedback on what you've used?

The rings i got from NPR have been fine. use those.
Total seal are finicky
Why do you need forged pistons though?

Thanks for the reply Colin! I bought a bunch of parts from a guy who was going to build a 2258cc motor but ended up selling the car before using these parts. I got a great deal on this stuff. It included a 78.0mm crank w/ VW Type 1 journals and the JE Racing pistons. All this stuff was new. There were no rings with the pistons though.

All JE pistons have a laser engraved number on the bottom side. I can order the correct ones through Pelican. Give ne a call at 888 280 7799 ext 330 if you need help.

Charles has a large contract with JE, likely the JE rings are NPR as they are made in Japan, but it's to JE's spec.

To me total seal is a gimmick and I had issues with a set, I have used Deves on a /6 with good results but that was many moons ago.

I just ordered rings for JE pistons from JE a few weeks ago.

I have a 2258, its alright.

Your 2258 is just alright? Do you wish you had gone with a bigger or smaller motor? When I here someone say something is alright it makes me think they are not completely satisfied. Is this the case?

I've used total seal and deves on old race 2.0/4 in the 90's but for street I would buy from JE

You have to watch fitting rings to JE pistons. You may find a Grant or other ring thats the proper width and tension, but the radial depth will be completely wrong.

That one will only bite you once, but it may take you eons to find where you went wrong.

i just have a really eccentric view of enough power.
And it likes to turn the oil pressure light on.
I also had some weird carb tuning issues i need to sort out but without a wideband im pissing up a rope, so i have one on the way and will figure it out soon enough.

Once you get your carbs properly setup you'll be a much happier camper. The A/F ration gauge will really help you get them dialed in. Before you start adjusting your carbs for A/F you need to make sure they are syncroized. Do you have a carb sync tool? If not you need to get one. This is the type to get, Snail Type Syncrometer Carb Sync Tool, GERMAN, SK Model. You can find these from many online VW/Porsche parts retailers. Here's a link for one of them:
