If your engine is out put the the rear rod thru the hole before you install the engine. Engine still in? put the rod in the bar before you bolt it up the bar.

That really is not needed. It would just get in the way and is easy to install after the engine is in.
Just had to help a friend who put in the engine bar the wrong way and could not get fourth and Fifth. The shift rod will bind on the engine bar and prevent it from fully rotating.
