Upon turning key on in the Harbor Freight parking lot today, my tach immediately pegged at 7K. Tried key a few more times, same thing. Figured I'd troubleshoot at home, so actually started car to go. Tach jumped around for a second and then settled into normal operation. Has not done it since. Any ideas as to the gremlin that would cause this? First time tach has ever acted up.

Probably not related, but MSD 6AL ignitions that have the rev limiter enabled will peg the tach to the value that the rev limiter is set to when you turn on the ignition for about 3 seconds.

It would behave exactly like that if the rev limit was set to 7k.
But I'm guessing you would know that if you had a MSD.

Check the engine harness from the relay board . The wire is black with purple stripe.
