Looking at what would be my first 914 (72, 1.7, fi). Seller described air cleaner as an oil-bath. Is that original or an aftermarket item? I thought those went out in the '50's.

Standard on 1.7 for 70,71,72. Lots of early car owners switched them out and went with the 73 set up with the air filter.

Sounds like you're not very familiar with VW engines wink.gif

I'd recommend doing ALOT more research on everything about these cars before you make the plunge. Especially if you're not familiar with air-cooled engines.

If you want an air cleaner for a 1.7 that uses a paper element, you can have the one I have for the cost to send it to you.

Of course, then all you'll need is a paper filter that will fit headbang.gif
