Well, to coin a well turned phrase from The Grateful Dead, "what a strange
long trip it's been." Well it's gittn' stranger!

Late last night I disconnected all the fuel lines and blew them out; free
and clear. I next ran a line on the outside of the car from the fuel pump
(mounted under the tank, near the rack) all the way down the side of the car
(taped) to the engine compartment to the regulator. Real scary looking, but
went ahead anyway, worst case would be the car burns to the ground. Problem
still there; hit approx 5500 and the engine goes flat. Removed exterior fuel
line and reconnected original fuel lines.

Semi-fast-forward to this morning. Removed valve covers and check valve
clearance, all the intakes were dead on .006 three of the exhaust were a
little tight (maybe .007) the fourth was dead on .008. I went ahead and
re-adjusted everything to spec. Turned the motor through and double checked
everything. Nothing was correct, some way too tight some way to wide! What
the heck?!? Adjusted them again, one side at a time and now I can't get
them to repeat! I had someone else adjust them, get them dead on and turn
the motor though and whamo! (technical term) they will not repeat! I
adjusted them again, and sure enough you can turn the motor though and it's
changed. What the heck is going on here? Finally got them close, but a
little wide and started up the car. Idles great. Bring up the RPM and it
pops misses and generally runs like crap. Worse than before this whole saga
started.

Took both carbs off and completely dis-assembled them. All passages are
clear, all gets, screws and pumps clear. Float levels is correct, needle
valve and seat, new.

Car will now not even get to 2K under a load.

I'm thinking saws-all party at this point.

Guesses, anyone? Or is my next step to split the cases?
