Can I use the 2270cc engine rebuild kit from type4parts.com on my 73 2.0 engine without any maching or other extra steps. Also will I need to get bigger than the 40idf's that I have now.

No, there will be machining, and some more machining. There is never a time of no machining, the machining may not cost an arm, and a leg, but it will cost at least a small piece of ass.

Actually there is NO machine work required. I supply a set of rods that I have made that clear the case and cam without any clearaning. The big end caps are more compact than the CB or Scat H beam rods. I had these made just for the stroker crank, cam and case roof clearance issue. All you need is a case and you can build up a 2270.

So Jake is the inventor of the combination of a 78.4 crank with 96mm pistons? You must have been doing this since the late 70's, you have more experience than I thougth. I knew a guy in High school that did that combination and that was in the late 70's. He was all into VW racing. He used to run out at OCIR.
