Hello everyone, I am ben and i am the pround new owner of a '74 roller. I was very very lucky to get this given to me along with just about everything to put it back together becuase this person is moving and couldnt bring it with him. The body is in almost perfect condition except for its a little scruntched in the back on the passengers side. So far i have been working on completely strippring it as much as can. I have gotten all the tar sound dedening crap off the inside, and have done a lot on the front end, headlights ect... So I am wondering if i am planning on completely painting it, should i remove the wiring harness? Is it a better idea to tape off the wiring harness and have an ok job on the trunks and cabin paint or what? Anyways any input is very appreciated! Hello there and welcome. I personally wouldn't remove the harness because I'm too paranoid about tearing things up because everything is so old and brittle. If you're going for a complete resoration then it should be considered.

I would pull out the wiring harness if your going to do all that trouble to strip everything else... Later on down the road you will wish you've had (or havent )

I would also install a new wiring harness. Or get a Painless kit or something. You will thank yourself, because you WILL find some previous owner repair in there, and you will hate it.

I say pull the harness, it isn't THAT hard. Sirandy has a very good harness guide in the classics section.

Replace that door! Doors are easy to get and easy to replace. That rust from the inside out (or at least that's what it looks like) is a real pain to repair.

Actually, rust really inst a problem in this. Dont get me wrong, there will be plenty of need for POR 15, but the worst is the battery tray and it didnt get to the body. I will just cut the battery trey out of there and put the battery in the trunk because of lack of metal working equipment. Longs are good, floor is good, in general, the body is in really good shape. So anyone know how much a new wiring harness is? I am going to do my best to have this thing looking/running good but unfortunately money is an issue
