Found on Craigslist a lien sale for $800, two 914's with one engine and two transaxle's.
Never had a dual carb 914-4, no information of it history. Just got
them home and don't know if it runs yet. I have read that the cam needs to be machined for it to work right.
So, my question is if the dual carb is worth more or disirable than stock fuel injection.
Had a 1969 912 with dual carbs, it ran great!
I couldn't past on it, I was thinking of doing a Magnus Walker paint scheme.

I think you mean matched for the cam, you don't machine a camshaft..ideally you'd want a different cam for the carbs, a stock cam will work but why stick with stock and not take advantage of being able to run something a little more fun?
As to the car being worth more with carbs? Yes, no and maybe.
Some people love carbs, some hate them, same for the FI.
If the cam has already been swapped it might be too radical for the stock FI so you might be stuck with it unless you want to swap the cam.

I think he "had" a 912 with carbs and it ran well. I'd guess he no longer has that car or motor.
Carbs versus FI is a like asking Ford or Chevy , you'll get mixed results and more information is needed.
