Full Version: having a intermittent fuel pump issue ( the ghost )

Drove the 9 one 4
About 20 miles ,parked once engine off for two minutes, fired up drove 3 blocks
Park engine then off for 15 mins
When i go to start it no fuel pump sound or fuel getting to the engine
..............
Called for the tow waited 35 mins ,still no tow truck ,i try the fuel pump again and suddenly
It works and car runs great .


Drove the car again next day runs fine ,now


Was it the x- file phenomenon of vaper lock

Or am i way off

Try a new relay first. You might have an original 40 year old relay in there. I've had more than one fuel pump problem traced to bad relays.

I'd also check the fuse and rotate it in its holder. That has worked for me several times

As in where is the fuse flag.gif

Worth it to check the relay and the fuses. I did this for mine, but in the end it was the fuel pump gone dead. My car ended up like this due to the "while I am in there" bug:

Mine did this. Ultimately, had to replace it. blink.gif

I had similar problems. Mine was the relay board itself causing the intermittent problem

Check the relays & fuses first as suggested.

Then check the wiring at the pump to make sure the connections are tight.

It has continued to start reliably
So i think im going to ignore until my next oil change
