How many cars in the field and how many runs ya git?

KT

I'm thinking about 30-40 cars. 4 runs in the morning and 3 in the afternoon. It was a nice course in that everyone had a free practice lap before each timed run.
Trekkor
Sounds like a good time.
How was the driving surface?

Anymore pics?

What modifications does he have to the engine to get 245hp out of it?

Thanks to all who brought out their 914s and tore it up. Special thanks to Andy who made me smile when the instructors asked what everyone drove and I said "a 914 what!" I passed him off to Kern Brieux as I have not idea how you would drive a car that was posessed by the devil. happy11.gif
There were 47 entered drivers so I would have to say somewhere between 36-40 cars. The 914s did a very good job and I am pretty sure that they took TTOD as well as most sub 30 second runs. The only two cars out there that were fully race trimmed were 914s that being Steve N and Susan and EJ. They were pretty consistantly sub 30 to as low as 27 sec. runs. There was a race prepped 2002 but he had license plates and drove it too and from so it wasn't too wild. He did very well too.
My Boxster (and me) managed a mid 32 second run which isn't too terribly bad considering that between instructing and working I didn't even have much time to change or check tire pressures. Some of the other Boxsters with R compound tires managed to get close to 30 seconds.
Pretty good day and next month will be better. I will be towing the trailer down with the equipment and we will see if I can get the MPS from AA I ordered about a month ago if can't drive the 914 in that event. Hope to see lots of you there.

agressive cams, some headwork, heavier springs and a few more goodies ...

the car got a lot of low end torque, which is nice for AX

haha, funny that you mention that ...

there was a 90 deg. corner at the end of a long straight and i was going full throttle all the way up to the corner, brake hard and turn in and on the gas again.
worked every time ...

during the lunch brake someone walked up and asked about how i was tackling the bump at the end of the straight ...

my response:
"bump? what bump? there is a bump?"

then i watched other cars and you could see them bounce all over the place.
i didn't even feel it, the car was soooo smooth.

Andy you may have hit the 90 degree corner right every time but I don't remember there being a 360 corner right after that! biggrin.gif

nope, i wasn't taking about the start/finish (my 360 deg. playground) the bump was at the corner at the end of the long straight in the back. never spun out there, or anywhere else for that matter, 'cept at the start/finish ...

lol, thanks, it was a handful (see my vid..). I thought your reaction was funny. "914 8 should act like a 911.." as your thinking "ya.. well go with that..."

Anyways, can anyone photoshop Steves car in orange with black lettering and stripe instead of white?

As a member of the SVR Autocross committee, I would like to extend my thanks to each of you that were able to make it. I believe Rob highlighted the numbers... I believe we got a universal thumbs up. The course was fairly simple, but there were tricks in it, and if you weren't careful, it would get you. Times were very close... TTOD was 26.95 (I believe clean)... and most cars were faster then a 33... so not a very large range in times. IU am not sure when the results will be published

We had 11 students... which was about 20-25% of the total entrants - and I hope all got the amount of instructing they needed and are ready to come out to another autocross real soon!

Grant... you did an awesome job with that Ai class 914. You cam tantilizingly close to getting into the sub 30 second range.

Brad did a burn out show... and listening to you and Andy drive that big-6 was a lot of fun.

EJ and Susan brought their red 914-6 and were sub 30's all day. Joy had a very nice 7th run and broke into the low 28's. That's with 200lbs in the passenger seat.

D-Man had a little excitement in that there was a fear that he might have a flexing control arm ear... not sure what the resolution was.

Doug has posted some pics from the event on the SVR web page...

http://www.derporsche.net/

Our next event is on May 8... which is a Sunday... but I hope to see many of you out there.

Steve

"Hazel Nutz" - uh no... not a real name. I heard a rumour why he is using a fictitious name... something to do about worries about warranties.

The fast bimmer and 912.... I am not sure what the story is. The 912 was in my run group so I didn't hear any times. Not sure if the 2 bimmers waere in white or green... but if it was in white, then I am fairly certain it didn't break 30 as I do not recall any of those BMW's breaking into the 29's and I was announcing times for the white run group. I suspect we might have had some times incorrectly captured - but could be wrong on that confused24.gif

The Red BMW 325 IS was driven very very well, had gobs of power and suspension/alignment was set up perfectly for autocrossing. He was getting that car into 3rd gear at times on that first long straight. Car was rotating perfectly in the corners. He was consistently setting times under 30 when I was watching him. Amazing driving! I think his time was right.

The 912 on the other hand was consistently setting 34-35 second runs. Which is what you would expect for that car. I dont remember any 30 Sec runs. Being in an underpowered car I tend to watch the other slow cars closely to gauge my driving.
