I just removed this motor from a 914-6 in which I reinstalled its original motor. . It has less than 800 miles on it after a professional shop rebuild. This is a proper 1970 2.2 S motor. . All the engine work was done by Mark Kenninger / Black Forest San Diego whose personal 911SC took TTOD at the Parade. This is another of his exceptionally fine running motors.

The list of work includes magnafluxed crank, resurface of case halves and a line bore. New case savers installed. Has new S cams using 1975 Carrara 36 mm big port heads.
This motor is set up for Webbers. It now has pressure fed tensioners, and a full valve job with all new valve guides and seals. All rods rebuilt and balanced, all bearings new including #8. Everything you'd expect to be renewed was done.
Sold as pictured with correct S distributor and matched port carburetor manifolds.

Wasn't that the engine that was flogged at the track? I thought I read that someplace. 20k for a small displacement engine with no carbs? any warrantee? You know what you can get for 20k? Maybe I'm missing something here. Is it like uniting a numbers matching engine to the car? Is that where the value is?

No . not 'flogged' at a track. . this is a 700 mile true S motor. I just removed it from a Six when I put the original motor back in the car.. . I have the shop build paperwork for a little over $13K for the rebuild. . It's basically a new motor. that's is actually in the going price range for a real S motor these days. . $40K plus for a complete S motor on the Early S Registry is pretty regular. . and yes it is listed there also. .

dramatically risen - especially when all Internals are " S "
One case that has risen is sky-high is the 76 - 930 case.
I see asking / market price points from 17k up.

I'm curious....I know the output of the stock -6 911T but what's the estimated output of a 2.2 S?

1970 was the first year for the 2.2 liter motor. . The factory rated the 2.2S at 180/200 hp in their advertisements. .

It was running well when I removed from the car a couple of months ago. It is complete except for a few items I had to remove; mainly the oil cooler, alternator/ fan, carbs and the thermostat whihch I needed for the original Six motor.

I guess my point is if your doing a conversion why would you want a small displacement engine for 20k when you can get so much more for the money.

My second point is there have been engines posted on the early 911 registry for "the moon prices." In fact I know of one that was listed there after guy's commented on the engine being worth sooo much money and in demand.

The only response to the ad was from some low baller early 911 guys. Maybe trying to get it for the real price. The guy ended up just using the engine. The price may be good if you can reunite the engine with the car.

This is a really killer price. It was fair before, but now it is outrageously a great bargain in today's marketplace.

Lower valve covers are drilled for twin plug.
Are the heads twin plugged?

no not twin plug heads. . , these were to lower covers on it. . I don't know the reason. .

For reference:
I sold an unknown 2.2S engine long block for $10k about a year ago.
No intake or exhaust.
