I have seen where others had the question on how to remove paint overspray from the fresh air intake. Many if not most of the products isn't recommended for use on plastics. I happened to run into this at Home Depot and tried it.

I scrapped the worst of it off and here is the before picture.

some more pictures. the box isn't perfect and has been messed up by other stuff but I think it came out a lot better than it was. 
I would say this is good for a driver and worth a try.
