The perfect end to an already excellent day. beerchug.gif chowtime.gif chatsmiley.gif

I just got back from dinner with Seanery and a couple of his business partners. It is always a treat to meet another 914Clubber. If your ears were burning it's prolly because you were mentioned in our dinner conversation.

After a delicious meal, we did what you might expect . . . . .
. . . . we went out to the parking garage to look at my car.

We had to cut our brief visit short 'cause Sean needed to go unload a truck for the trade show and I gotta get to bed so I can head back to the track for another day of fun tomorrow.

Several of those cars have raked windshields, interesting.

Chris,

thats an AJ signature item. Most of the zuffenhaulin cars do it.
Its a hand cut lexan windshield (not production pattern) that covers the cowl intake vents.

the roof panel is then cut in two. Bent. and glued-glassed back together.
and if you look at the roof you can easily see where the last 12 inches are a different angle

AJ also has about a half dozen other aero tricks that he does.
He said at the vegas track, he can pick up 7 to 10 mph on the straight just from his aero tricks.

What kind of speeds do these cars see?

How does the roof intake duct air into the engine? Is there a hole and deflector in the targa bar?
LvSteveH
John was kind enough to let me ride along for a session, now I have something to motivate me to get my car done. It was a great day, got to see a bunch of neat cars, got sunburned, got to meet Joe Sharp, and all it cost me was $3.50 for a coke at the roach coach.

Thanks again John, had a great time smilie_pokal.gif

oh, and now I want a GT2 Cup car wub.gif if I sell my house I'd have to live in it, but it might be worth it.

JP.. no offense to the green car's owner, but why don't you help him out with that paint?

brant

I guess that was kinda rude of me. What is that color....OD metallic? I saw a 911 "paint to order" that same color in Excellence some time back....my reaction was the same.....but in private where it should be kept. I never liked OD much....specialy when I was ordered to wear it. biggrin.gif

To address some of your questions -

QUOTE
I was hoping to see the rear section of Ron Mistaks 914GT1 hybrid.

Sorry but he had packed up and left when I got to the track on Sunday.
QUOTE
Did he have the 6 speed sequential tranny working okay?

He was only on the track for one session on Saturday.
I'm not sure what problems he was having.

QUOTE
the #31 production car is actually Jim and James. A father and son crew.

Sorry but I am terrible with names.
I would forget my own if it wasn't sewn in my underwear.

QUOTE
yellow teener in the lead. that's mike hemmingways car.
was he driving or his wife Jenny?

This weekend was Jenny's turn to drive in the race.
You are correct about Mike running exhibition in the blue group.

QUOTE
what was the event and where was it held ?

PCA Club Race and DE, sponsored by the Intermountain Region from Utah.
Held at the Outside Road Course at the Las Vegas Speedway.

What kind of speeds do these cars see?

I was hitting 115 on the front straight and 105 on the back side.
I know the GT cars were going much faster.

As Steve already reported, I gave him a ride in the morning practice session.
We had just parked in the paddock and were taking off our helmets
when Joe Sharp and Linda came walking up. What a great surprise.
VegasRacer
The next time out the 356 gridded right behind me.
We had a lot of fun slicing thru traffic together.

LvSteveH took these photos.
VegasRacer
All of the surprises for the weekend were not good ones.
On Saturday I had developed a small transmission leak.
Before the last session we also discovered this problem which ended my day.
A crack in the engine mount bar will require my immediate attention.
VegasRacer
Last two photos - #1.) Green flag.

The roof ducts air through a hand made plexiglass/lexan Square (tubing) air duct.

The air duct runs from the roof...
throught the lexan rear window...
through the engine grill..

and dumps air onto the flat fan set up they run in the fours.

In the pictured car (bill's -6) I don't know how he handled the air exit.

are you now turning polically correct on me?

I don't want to offend the owner either, but its not a beautiful version of a 914.....

Nice shots John!

The 356 is Les Long of Air Power Racing. He's an F-16 pilot at Hill AFB during the day. The 20 car is Lisa's. She the S/O of Bruce Phillips out of Albuquerque. Bruce has one of the finest Porsche race/fabrication shops around. His car is a similar center seat 911, both with that metallic mystery paint. Last time I was in Albuquerque I got a tour of the facilities... wow. pray.gif

Hope the Utah gang threated you well smilie_pokal.gif

Who own's Newlin's old #22 now? I think he'd shit a brick if he knew someone stuffed a Six into it. He was always very vocal about keeping it a four-cylinder. And exceedingly fanatical about keeping it light weight.

I think the orange #90's owner may be on one of my mailing lists... Hmmm...

Here he is adjusting the alternator belt.

I wasn't thinking of you biggrin.gif The owner may drop by here some day & there's no sense pissing him off....I'm usually more tactful.....really biggrin.gif "Astheticly challenged" would have been better than the puke smiley.

Dave:

The new owner of Newlin's car prolly got tired of spreading t-4 parts all over hell & gone. Hauling 2-3 spare motors around would get old too. laugh.gif

PCA GT rules clearly define what has to be left of the original car to still make the new version a porsche.

I'd bet without looking it over personally... that you could read through a rule book and guess exactly what Ron still has on that car from a teener.....

Hey John, For Leamons 3.2 race car he used a 1.5" solid steel square bar for the engine mount. I'll see if he has a pic of it. But that thing was raced for 6 seasons with no problems.

VegasRacer
Thanks Mike. That would be great.

I was thinking about getting the one that Patrick Motorsports sells.
Anybody have any other recommendations?

God yes!! Rich Johnson's bulkhead mount. It will not break.
Dave_Darling
Not only will it not break, but it won't act like a big spring, letting the motor bounce up and down...

--DD
VegasRacer
I was looking for an 'easy' option where I would not have to drop the engine. smash.gif blowtorch.gif I don't want to have the same problem again in a few years, so I guess Rich's kit is the way to go. confused24.gif
Eric_Shea
I second the RJ kit.
J P Stein
Hay, I'm all for "easy", but in this case I decided that "easy"
equaled "temporary" and bit the bullet. I did the Vellious mount....Rich was not ready with his version at the time.

You've made a wise choice, me thinks.
