HI This is my first post and first 914. Rotors look bad pads gone I have litte cash. Got any ideas?

try to get a used set of rotors that is in better condition than yours.
there's a bunch of guys in your neck of the woods.
and last time i checked, new brake pads were not that expensive ...

For the rotors, i'd look at having them turned down if they are pitted. You can check the haynes manual (or someone can post) the tolerances.

For pads, I'd go with Mintex from www.pelicanparts.com . They are reasonably priced. Also price check with www.gpr-parts.com (you might want to call GPR for pricing).

Suck it up and get the pads and rotors. Hate to be blunt but just doing pads w/o rotors is throwing money away unless they arent too thin to be turned. I would want to know its done right especially when it comes to brakes.

say you find used rotors for $50... fine, but new ones are not THAT much more... you could even get new fronts and used rears for a non-auto-x car...
rebuild kits for calipers: $20x4 =80
new pads: maybe another $50, $100 for much better ones... (I think I paid $65/front set for porterfields, r4s)
brake fluid $12
new soft lines $40 (if needed, good idea)
if needed, a new M/C is about $100... but you probably do not need it... unless brake fluid is pooling @ the cluster...

small price for the most important pieces of equipment on your car... the only safety equipment we have on these cars is the brakes and the seat belts, and to you want to trust 30+ year old seat belts to make sure you see your wife and kids again?

i have set of used rotors, that are not warped, but might be at the limit for thickness ( i have not checked it ) that you can have for shipping. also some 20 dollar pads from your FLAPS are better than none

If you have or can borrow a caliper you can remove the wheels and measure the rotors. If they are thick enough that they can still be turned at a FLAPS, it won't cost much at all to have them turned. Your FLAPS can probably supply you with pads as well. That would be the cheapest way to go. If the rotors are not think enough to be turned, then as others have said, there are plenty of 914 guys in your area with used parts. You could probably core a set of used rotros that could be turned pretty cheap.

Having said all of that, let me also say that brakes are not the place to save money. You and the lives of other motorists and pedestrians are worth the extra bucks to get the job done right.

I stopped using my brakes.

I am good at planning ahead.
