We have made engine sound deadening back pads in the past, they were not quite right. I do have inexpensive options that work well, but I do like the factory look.

These are the felt like the OEM, only we treated it with scotch-guard to make it water repellent. We then bonded rubber to engine side to help keep water out and add an additional barrier that keeps out heat and sound.

It looks more like OEM and will install like OEM.

As an option -We can leave the "slots" that allow for the pad to stretch into the indentations of the seat areas (as shown). We can easily remove or you can cut out if you wish. I will be fitting this in my red car tomorrow to see if I want to leave it in. I think it will look more uniform, but when cut looks identical to factory at a fraction of the weight.
Cost will be the same.

So who's interested?
PS Sorry for the crappy pics I'll get better up tomorrow

I need a sound pad solution...Im in for one

How does the OEM one install again? Will these be removable for maintenance (e.g., drying out and making sure there's no rust lurking behind)?

I bought your original one and never could get it to fit or stay quite right. I'm interested but kind of want to know these will mount cleanly. I haven't run with a backpad for a long time, and it might be nice to have a little less T4 noise, especially with the top on.

Rubber on both sides? or felt side toward engine? What does this thing weigh?
Mikey914
Felt toward passenger side.
The OEM were glued and had the metal tabs that folded over the edges as well as the 2 retainers that are in the seat area that helped to keep them in place. We and do both sides in rubber (additional cost), but I'm gong to play around with fitment today as I do not want to glue into my car. Mine I'm sure came from the factory without the pad (72 1.7), as the sticker was affixed to the metal and it's pretty stock.

I'll get you a weight today, but my Guess is about 1/2. Anyone know the weight of these (factory) off hand?

Click-Bond stand-off studs on the firewall, large fender washers/nuts on top.

I'm liking this a lot.

Just contacted them $7.80 per stud, you need to buy the epoxy cartridge and the special gun. Sounds like it's getting expensive. Thinking we may need to custom make a product for this application.

Hory clap they've gone up a bunch. I used a bunch of them to mount components to the firewall of the Tiger, they weren't that expensive at the time...

I suggest 3M VHB structural tape would work fine in that application. I use it to secure solar panels to the top of my trailer, and architects use it to secure glass panels to the outside of skycrapers. Stuff is tenacious.

I'm up for one (or maybe two).

Bonded studs sounds good as I sealed all holes on the firewall. One may have to install metal grommets in the pad so the metal studs don't start making their way through the pad. smile.gif

Had a customer come by the shop and buy the first one today, I think we have a hit.
We will get some production on these and open up the GB.

A better picture before I had a chance to try to install.
