Ok....I'll be the 1st to say.....WTH?
No idea what that rhyme has to do with a gold 914.
And I've been around awhile.
rgalla9146
It was a blue car ? it's a VW label ? aren't all 4 cyl. cars labeled like that ?
only two things smell like fish ?

Color change from white confused24.gif
Edit : I say white because of the borders, but now I see the blue in the dots...

No fish in NH today.

Doesn't look to be a tamper proof sticker... Mine also has "Type Passenger Car" as the top line. Don't know if all years had that though.

I am not usually this vague...sorry for the mystery. This one smells 'fishy'...

Seller says its the original color...not by the looks of that ratty label, which almost looks like a photocopy its so rough.

Here is the Serial Number link in the VIN Section.

Very good catch Mr. Bowlsby.

73-914
you can see the gold on the rear quarter panel
rgalla9146
How do you explain the blue behind the
compliance sticker ? .......there's a masking line around the whole thing.
Seller should provide the color code on the Karmann tag.
He's a Austin Healey guy.

If it smells like fish, do as you wish... blink.gif

I think the reference is to the seller stating all paint on the "jams", trunk, engine compartment, etc. is original, yet that sticker sho' looks to have been taped for a spray job. bs.gif

Edit: What Rory said...

I'm not sure if thats gold or surface rust but you can see what appears to be gold on the inside of the front fender.

Nice catch, Jeff.

We already have creamsicles, bumblebees, and even grasshoppers.

From now on, are all cars that color called "goldfish?" idea.gif
rgalla9146
Yep, original paint.
Kinda.
Take it from the expert salesman.
What a hoot.

that is nuts that that car brought that much! Someone got a bad deal. Adriatic blue maybe originally? Side markers gone, so obviously it had a little work, front mounted rear trunk jack corresponds with 1/72 production Funky jack, clutch needs some radical adjustment, no good hardware on the front and rear hood hinges, crazy money for that one that is for sure

No it was originally gold...then blue...then gold again.
The door jamb VIN sticker is a repro that was put on the car when it was blue.

See link I posted above, where I posted screenshots of the two auctions it sold in in the last 6 months.

I agree though, someone got a bad deal. The current seller really misrepresented the car if he was the guy who bought it six months ago from the previous seller who claimed in his auction that he repainted the car from blue back to it's original gold.

I sent the current seller a screenshot of the blue car from the VIN registry here. He sent me many colorful replies. This was the one I responded to.

Testy seller.
dr914@autoatlanta.com
How did you know that it was a repro sticker? It looks very old, and the dot punching for the serial number looks quite original. What gives it away as a repro?

The concours judge thing might come back to bite him if the buyer figures out what he purchased.

I doubt the buyer made a trip out to see the car but I sure would have for that kind of money.
