I need a stronger engine mount for my EG33 engine,I started to think about adding some steel to my Original ( 4 Cyl ) engine mount / cross bar and Iam curious if this could even be done,.?? Thanks Frank

I think it's cast iron. Not sure how well it would hold up.

Just buy some square tubing 0.120 wall. Weld a stack of washers at the ends and it will look almost like the stock bar. Then weld your brackets.

Or build one of these...

well I had some 1/8 walled square tubing but when I set that engine on it bow's a little I guess I could weld another piece to it,I don't know how strong of tubing I bought but it seemed pretty stout.

No bueno on welding to the later style cast bar, but early cars have a crossbar that isn't cast.

If you want to experiment, I have an early crossbar you can have for the cost of shipping.

Welding plate or tube to cast takes a little finesse but it can be done by heating the cast up to a certain temp then welding, then cooling it down at the proper rate. If it's not done properly then one of two things will happen, the cast will harden and crack, or there won't be enough penetration and the weld will fail.

350lbs+ is a lot of weight in the middle of a 3ft section of single piece of square tubing.

Did you end up angling the beam forward to match up to your small car mount? This would help as it creates a boxed effect.

You could also add a plate gusset length wise on the top of the beam and it should take care of the slight bow also.

I've had it done for tabs for an oil cooler (old install). My welder used a TIG with SiBronze I think. Still there, but no oil cooler attached to it now.

Not Yet Chi-town,the small car brackets extend right across the top of the bar,I needed to get my cold air intake issue solved before I decide where to position the engine,then I can mark everything to get it all welded,I will use a plate on the small car brackets and a plate on the cross member so I can bolt them together so I would hope to have the ability to adjust Fwd. and back as needed to fit everything exactly,
