Not sure. Never seen them. They look like they would trap moisture and cause premature corrosion.

There are many varieties of heat shrink tubing. Keeping moisture out appears to be the reason for these. Marine grade utilizes a sealant. I use it all the time on wires that can be exposed to the elements.

I do not see the need for them on a 914. Would make pulling a relay harder. One time use. Other ways to reduce corrosion of electrical contacts.

They were just big rubber bands. They were added around 72-73 to keep moisture out of the relay. Most died after a short period of time. The ones that did not break are like yours. Most are hard and crusty. They will crumble when you start to take them off.
