hey guys first post here.

so im currently in the middle of doing the front fresh air blower motor and I bought the bosch replacement motor. my problem is I cant get the new motor down into the housing far enough to engage the spring clips to hold it in place. has anyone ever done just the motor replacement?

Hey, welcome to the world!

I did the motor replacement thing about 3 years ago, and recall having to, ah, gently modify the replacement motor to fit. I vaguely recall having to cut some extraneous lugs or mounting tabs off? Compare and contrast the old and new motors carefully to see the differences - calipers can help here - and good luck.

Looking back, I took photos of the old motor and wiring, but sadly not of the shiny replacement - so no help posting those here. Be good to have that info documented on the site.

The fan blade is a different design than OEM.
1. Have you tested it for CFM airflow?
2. Are the blades balanced like OEM? See the wire clips used by the factory ?
3. Has it been test fitted into a 914 fan housing?

Looks like the OEM and your part is identical. Looks like you are sourcing from the same place Porsche gets theirs.
I got a URO brake switch and a Genuine Porsche. Made on the same tooling from the stamping marks. Only difference was Porsche part had the part number ink jetted on the part.

Looks like a win win if the producer goes to the trouble of balancing and due diligence in test fitting. If they were to do that we would win and they would get chops for doing it right.

Just got word from engineering:
  • The fan blades are balanced, in fact you can see a metal balancing clip on one of the blades in the above product photo.
  • Though it was already done prior to production, we just grabbed a random fan assembly off the shelf and was compared it to OEM using a 3D scan. Exterior dimensions are within 1mm of OEM (and that minor difference is probably due to slight position differences during each scan), so fitment in the housing shouldn't be an issue.
  • The electric motor has similar performance specifications and 3D scanning shows that the fan blades match OEM, so CFM should be very comparable to OEM.
