1973 914 has been sitting for many years, the handle does not budge. How can I get that front trunk open? TIA
Jazzy
Remove the front bumper with the 4 bolts from the wheel wells, two on each side. Then you'll see a small hole in the front where the lock can be released with a screw driver.

But before you do that, make sure the handle isn't locked with the key. smile.gif

There aren't any keys. will it make a difference if it is locked?

Quickest thing to try is have someone push down on the lid while you try to pull the handle. Take the tension off of it.

If that doesn't work, then yes, you need to remove the bumper. On the body you'll find a hole in which a screwdriver or something can be inserted to move the catch.

Once you do get it open, clean and lubricate all moving parts.

agree.gif lubing up the cable, latch and pull will keep it from getting stuck again. Same with all the locks, window winders and cables on our cars.

Yes: if it's locked then the handle cannot be pulled.

Whether it's a locked handle, a frozen cable, or a sticky latch, you should be able to trip the latch with a screwdriver after the bumper is removed. Then you can troubleshoot.
