Hello! I am trying to ID these wires:

I am not good at wiring diagrams and I found no luck researching this topic

Enlighten me with your Jedi wiring knowledge @JeffBowlsby @Dave_Darling and anyone else who are pros at wiring 914’s.

I would like to know how the relay works; after learning how the dual relay on the L-Jet functions, it made it easier to diagnose problems and is just interesting

The ones with the wire nuts appear to be the buckle and seat sensor wires.

The relay plugs into the board there so no mystery there.

Take the two large yellow wires and connect them together to bypass the silly logic.

Connect the black wire to the black/red stripe and that should give you power to the light in the backpad if you don't have it already.

I don't have details on how it is supposed to work and the diagrams I have don't have the relay and wiring on them.

The general consensus is that it more often doesn't work correctly.

It is supposed to turn on the seatbelt warning light on the dash AND lock out the starter if the seatbelts are not fastened. There is a pressure switch in the passenger seat and there are switches in each seatbelt receiver to determine if the belts are buckled. When you try to start the engine if your seatbelt is not fastened the starter won't crank and if you have a passenger their seatbelt has to be fastened too.
The two important wires are the large yellow and yellow with red stripe. These are the power from the ignition switch to the starter and should be pulled from the relay socket and securly connected together. That way when one of the seatbelt receiver switches, seat pressure switch or relay fail you will still be able to start your car.

@jcd914 - I think you mean Yellow and Yellow/red stripe need to be connected as pictured in my post. Those are the important ones and it looks like he already has that taken care of.

It’s not a relay it’s a logic box. Diagrammed on the FWSM wiring schematic.

In that logic box, there is a relay that controls the starter circuit. So good enough for me.

I didn't find it on the diagrams I have which came from Pelican website when they had them there.
I only looked at the 72 & 73 diagrams, they just have the starter circuit going from ignition switch to the relay panel in the engine compartment.
With diagram is it on?

They started installing that crap in 74. There is a wire in there that comes from the ignition fuse on the fuse panel. Make sure you drop the fuse panel and cut that wire out of the circuit for the ignition. If it gets loose from the plug, it will bounce against ground and cause the car to die randomly. That drove Betty crazy for a while when we were dating. I found it and disconnected it. I have since removed all of that seatbelt interlock crap from her car. Even the bracket on the floor pan was removed.

Ok; any idea of the logic applied to the circuit .

Cut it all. Join the big yellow because it's the one that matters. Join the little browns... may not matter but they are grounds and it's a good idea. Run away laughing happily.

Just bypass it by mating the two big yellow wires. Cutting out wires is dangerous and unnecessary - who knows what won't work if you give it a wire-ectomy.

Mines bypassed but I would still like to get rid of the rest,I have removed everthing from my car that is not needed,would be nice to get rid of this lot.
