I suspect my temperature head sensor is the reason my 914 runs a little rough the first couple miles.

I know where it is on my 1.7. Do need to remove the tin to replace or can it be removed through the tin hole? I know a deep socket is needed to stuff the wire in.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You can leave the tin on and use a deep socket. Some people, including me, cut a notch in a 3 inch extension to thread the wire and lead through the socket. Others are able to just get the lead all stuffed inside the socket.

Just be careful putting a new one in. You don't want to strip those threads.

and smack the top of the head of the sensor to unfreeze the threads before turning it out Notching the extension is the trick I learned long long ago

I use a deep socket I bought at Harbor freight, I drilled a hole in the side of the (cheap throw- away) socket for the wire. I use it quite often.
