That's what I have on Igor. I am disappointed with them. The right muffler flange is 2"" lower than the left.

I am going to be running them until I can get some heat exchangers with 1.75 primaries.

Clay...did you cut/paste/reweld the Bursch problem, I wouldn't think that you could mount anything that caddywhompass ¿¿

Cool!

They will have to be slightly lower than the stock HEs. The right CV joint is touching the current header with the suspension at full droop. I also have to figure out how to put a muffler other than the Supertrapps on them.

Funny.. at the last AX, I had 3 different teenagers ask how the exhaust got out of the muffler.. av-943.gif

Is your current setup like the factory setup?

I have the exact same headers that are pictured in this thread.

If you look at this picture, you can see the triangle shaped collector, and how close it is to the CV boot. When the car is sitting on the ground, the cv boot is not touching. And that is after I beat a dent into the header with a ball peen hammer to make sure it will clear. Yours use a flat collector, so I think it will be less of an issue, but this is all custom so you never know. That's why I think the HE will have to be slightly lower.

Ideally a f1 merge collector would be more ideal for your application..

PM me with what you want for pictures so you can design this.

Sorry for hijacking this thread.....

Horsepower Engineering - AKA Bursch. I ran into interference with Bursch headers on a stock 914-6, one of the tubes hit the oil cooler and could not be bolted up. I contacted them, sent pictures, got the "we want to make them fit right". So I sent the "bad" one to them at my expense, 14 months later still hadn't gotten it back, I called and they said, "sorry we just never got to it" and sent it back to me. That was the last Bursch I purchased.

Ben or Marty is who you want to make your exhaust.

Those are factory GT headers and are said to perform poorly because of primary length
gandalf_025
Yes, these were a backup set from Ralph Meaney's
Stash. I bought them in the mid 70’s .

agree.gif But I'd also add tangerine for /4 headers

I have Marty's MSDS coated headers on my /6, they are beautiful and fit without issues.
Someday I'll get Ben's heat exchangers for heat.
I also have a /4 tangerine 1-7/8" coated set hanging on the wall here...just need to find a home for them.

Thank you Perry & Mark for the kind mention ¡
We mfg and stock the 1.75" od 9146 headers for the 3.6L + up conversions. Clay ...I'm sure that Ben or I can put something together (with clearence) for your NFG headers that you are running at present.

"Collectable items" right there, valuable as well ! The header secondaries were shorter thereby allowing a set of megaphones to attach (like intermediate extension tubes) directly into the mufflers. The factory figured that this corrected the back pressure when running with their sport muffler. For Marathon runs through cities with noise control, the twin muffler tips were temporarily capped, thereby directing the exhaust out the standard L rear tip. I guess you would call this a tight-packaging racing exhaust , specific for the m471 Competition cars.
gandalf_025
At the same time I bought those, I was putting an early 911 engine
in my car and was quite surprised when the rear shift rod wouldn't fit anymore.
The shop owner walked away and came back with this shift
rod that was also part of Ralph's stash and he handed it to me and said
..."I wondered why this was cut like this"....
Fit like a charm....Click to view attachment

All of this is very educational

Here is a pic of both, don't look like the Bursch

Years ago I sold a couple European Racing Headers for 914-6, but IIRC George Narbel (I think was his name) passed away. They were pretty good and fit well.
