Hi guys,
I'm getting ready to shoot a 914 for Newbies video about the most common places to find rust. Looking for shots of rusty:
Floor pans
Sail panels (nasty foam a bonus)
Cowl area
Rear of trunk
Base of firewall
Headlight buckets
Door sills
And any other common areas I forgot to list. The hell hole already has its own episode, so no need for those (and thanks again to all who posted). A pic of a broken rear trunk hinge would be great, too..
If you have some pics you'd like me to include, please upload them to this thread at a decent size. It'll help the greater good.
Thanks!
Ian

Lot's of rust pics here.
Click to view attachmentDon't forget the tunnel area. It often get's overlooked. Pinholes on the outside underbody are usually a sign of much worse rust penetrating from the inside out.
Suspension consoles.
Passenger side is usually the 1st to go.
Click to view attachmentIn this case my driver side has some stress cracking that also leads to rust on the consoles flanges that pick up the semi-trailing arm.
Click to view attachmentCan't seem to lay my hands on it quickly but have pics of rust at base of rear bulkhead that penetrate both inner and outer sheetmetal if no one else posts them.

You don't hear rusty motor mounts talked about that much.

These are often a problem, passenger side especially

Always rusting from inside out. A little blemish in mine, a screw driver went right through.
Click to view attachmentshot of this same one inside, not terrible but very thin at the bottom, close to rusted through
