I cleaned the grease off of my cv joint plates today, which raised two questions:

1. Is this wear a concern for re-use?

2. What was the original finish, plated with black chromate or painted black?

Cad plated, That wear should not present a problem, have them re plated and reuse...IMHO

That gouge won't hurt a thing. Just deburr the back side if it doesn't sit flat.

Best practice is to use fresh schnorr washers though. You'll be tempted to resuse the old ones. I've reused them back in the days when I was broke and before I knew better. If you can swing it - use fresh ones they will be less likely to loosen.

Someone else will chime in on the original finish.

Thanks, guys. Yep, I'll use new schnorr washers for sure. Just need to know the finish on the plating now (yellow or black).

I don't recall any finish on them. I think it was just plain steel with an oil dip.

I don't recall them being plated, but most are pretty dirty.
Have the schorr washers in stock if you need some. Also have the drilled CV bolts too if you decide to safety wire in place
