Hoping someone can tell me what engine this is. Don't the replacement engine IDs have an X at the end? I need to look at the intake bolts too. There are no numbers next to the oil fill stand though.

I noticed the VW logo at the end. Did not see that before.

On a Porsche engine the stamping location would make it a 1.7, 1.8 engine. However that number is not a stock 914 number. Thinking it is a miss stamped 1.8 engine that is should start with AN. We will need some pictures of the whole engine.

not a listed Bus motor, but maybe other VW? other A.xx codes are in the VW mix

Hi,

Well I was all ready for it to be a 1.7, or 1.8, BUT...

It has 3 bolt intakes, and 94mm bore. Which makes not only the number strange, but the location of it strange as well...

Could it be a factory replacement case, that was not factory stamped? I've heard of that on American V8s.

According to this from the sites referenced, it is not a recycled engine. It has the factory logo like the one pictured...

So maybe two errors... ??? should be GA, not A, and the location should be under the oil fill tower.

GA 2.0L engines are stamped on filler neck not on block. Somebody took a case and built a 2.0 engine.

Might be a VW 411 or 412 motor that someone upgraded with 2 liter pistons and Porsche heads.

Might be a 1200cc Beetle motor someone modded up?

Only ones that have just an Axxxxxxx
