My six project I am back to getting parts to make it a runner. I read an post here I think about a cable from Patrick Motorsports that allows you to not run the bell crank and linkage. The engine in me would prefer to get ride of the rubgoldbergesk contraption that makes up the 914-6 throttle linkage.

Yes I have the factory version, and the Rich Johnson version, what can I say I like options.

I think it is this one has anyone had success with this cable?

A lot of people just jury rig a bracket with the stock 914-4 throttle cable. I did this with my 2.7 six and webers. I then switched to the Rich Johnson setup. The difference.... Since the throttle cable is not doing hard curves, the Rich Johnson / factory has a nicer less restrictive pedal feel. Will the cable last longer with Rich's setup who knows.

I used to think the same but it has been very reliable and problem free.
I run the original set-up on my 914/6 vintage race car and never one issue in 11 seasons

I made mine using the stock /4 throttle cable.
-the crank from a 911, I heated it cherry so the brass melted and turned it to its new orientation.

-I used a 911 throttle pull rod, I had to cut some out of the rod length and welded it back up.

- I used a long bolt (cut off and hole drilled for cotter pin) for the crank pin, a bit of bicycle handle, some 1/16" steel, some welding drilled some holes so ot mointed on the side cover and made the tranny mount for the cable. Turned out good but was a bit overkill.

-Made the curve channel for routing the speedo clutch and throttle cable out of an old tent pole, some clamps and and I welded on some tabs, see pic below.

really expensive part (PMS tax ?) the original system with good linkages and a cable roller like 914rubber sell ,works pretty well for me,found the a lot of ball cups worn out so replaced them...makes big difference also.

I purchased the PMS one. It should suit my needs and connect up to the cis throttle bracket on my 2.7.

Sorry to hear about your falling out with Rich.

Looks like I will go the complicated route, why make it simple on me, I never made anything else simple.

You can build a system but with out the skills its fairly hard,not knocking the PMS system cause it would work straight off ,but there is a DIY option like I did.

I used the /4 cable ran up to the top of the engine to a bellcrank I fabricated.

I installed a "marine" steering cable (?) that was long enough to reach the rear axle location then bent up from under the axle 180 degrees and passed forward through the regular linkage hole in the engine sheet metal, anchoring the cable sheath onto the original 911 accelerator bell crank "platform" - thus no bell cranks other than the carbs themselves. The front portion of the cable sheath was also anchored within the tunnel near the gear shifter. Works well - three years now.

I found a couple good pic's of how I did my trans crank.

Pretty much what Mark H did but drilled the trans and used 911 pivot and bellcrank which I modified to fit relay rod to carb bellcrank on the engine.
Drilling the trans has to be carefully done,not something you just rip into.
I think you have a different bell crank (engine mounted ) bracket so the PMS one you have may suit your needs better...done really know exactly.
You need to start a build thread,it could save you $$$ and make the whole thing easier because you will learn from others mistakes .

IIRC some 914 intermediate plates can't be drilled for the shaft, as they don't have the boss, I'm pretty sure this was my case.

The 964 throttle linkage had to be scrapped when I flipped the throttle body around. And I was in an hurry to make Okteenerfest, so I just fabricated this. It works, but I don't particularly like the angle on the cable where it makes the turn next to the fan. I haven't had any binding or sticking though.

I am tentatively planning a Megasquirt conversion, and I have looked at using a 996 throttle body I have. It would have to go in the stock rearward facing location due to the size, and the fact that I will be using a map sensor instead of a MAF. So the cable installation will be more of a straight shot to the throttle body.
