914 World production chart says there were 16,639 1973 2.0 Liter cars built and only 5,597 1974 2.0 Liter cars built which would make the 1974 2.0 Liter cars more rare than the 1973 2.0 cars.

However, if you look at serial numbers of 2.0 liter engines offered for 73 vs 74 you would see that there were 6765 for 1973 and 8256 for 1974 making the 1973 2.0 Liter cars slightly more rare.

Oh, interesting. I didn't know 6s were made in 71 and 72. Thought only 70. Still alearning'!

1972 6's had the key on the column, like the 4's.

There's a bit of apples and oranges going on here. The top chart is annual factory unit count, regardless of MY designation.

The bottom chart is by MY designation as shown on the VINs. E.g., many of the '74s in the lower chart were built in '73 and show up there in the top chart.

If we had monthly production numbers and knew which month Porsche cut over to the next MY we could figure it out. Maybe someone already has done this?

My 73 2.0 was built in Sept of 1972 if remember the door tag correctly, and the motor is GA000798

Notice that there are no Euro engines listed?

Maybe that is another reason for the difference between the two charts... that would makes sense. I guess we’ll never know with absolute certainty.
