I had a client negotiating on this car, it is not as good as it looks, and after close inspection he decided not to buy it. Like the 5100 mile green one, this one was stored in harsh conditions

Nice car but as always I’m always disappointed in cars like these - just a museum piece. Just my opinion which is worth what you paid for it.

19,000 miles over 50 years is a shame

Cars are meant to be driven and enjoyed, not stored away and worshiped. Hope someone really enjoys looking at 914s. At this point, any miles driven massively depreciate the car as a coveted low miles collector item.

Good thing I didn’t win the recent $1B+ Powerball. I’ll buy up as many cars like this that I can and I’ll start driving them as they were meant to be. To hell with the depreciation

It’s probably noted somewhere, but what Porsche parts are missing from a 72 six besides the VW steering column and ignition switch?

disagree. not a repaint. but not disagreeing vehemently!
look at the door inners where the karmann badge is?
check hinge pins etc.

if it is a repaint its a very good one. better than your typical american, aussie, and esp english. in fact better than any i have ever seen.
might have been touched up here and there maybe.

very easy way to tell.
stick head up under dash and inspect under cowls and back in front trunk near bonnet hinges. paint goes thin in those areas on the factory paint cars.
restorers get way too much paint all over the car everywhere.
i can't see in the photos if thats the case.

reading the description i'd say that car is 99% legit.
given who owned it along the way.

dr 914 is probably right, photos look better than it actually is.
but lets not forget, the doctor has a stake in this one given his other green one.
(i see claim in description porsche once considered it best example left, but that was back in 94!! ).

the dr.'s green 6 is better. that i can tell from photos.
still got the magazine with the article on that car when it lived in UK back in the 90s and it used to annihilate on the concourse circuit.

i'd say the red one is pretty good but the guy selling it has a big $ on it?

interesting to see that bit of info about how many 6s they sold in the UK.

(did 72 6s have the crazy VW spare tyre driven washer thing, i notice that in other photo of front trunk the valve and tube seem to be there. thought the 6s had the pump?)


few "stone chips" in the bonnet.
looks like they have been brushed with rust convertor.
which makes me think whatever happened on front right was back in time.

Great question.
Right off the bat I'd say you loose three speed wipers and windshield squirter pump.
That's based on the steering column switches and water bottle.

its really hard to tell whats going on with that inner guard.

something looks like its happened.
could be as innocent as a bad gouge/scratch that has been touched up.
can't see where the repair if it is one goes at the top end or the bottom.
there are a lot of mottled artefacts in the digital photos which make it hard to really see.

maybe its a sign that some bastard did actually drive this baby pre 1979 and gave it a bit of stick and slid it into a ditch or put it through an english hedgerow.

I see the hand throttle. I bet all the suspension, brakes and drive train are six.
Otherwise your paying a lot of money for just a vin.

The 72 914-6 is what I like to refer to as a "Factory Conversion". They started with a complete /4 chassis, and put 914-6 suspension, brakes, wheels, engine and trans, etc.. under it. They even made a short adapter harness to hook the /6 relay board to the /4 wiring harness.

But it is a real six, built by the factory.
