Full Version: New Engine tin source?

I am starting to reassemble my 1975 2L engine after tearing it apart 20 years ago. As it has been a long while since I started the teardown, I don't remember where and what all the pieces are. It would be awesome if anyone would send/post me a photo showing all the pieces and where they go (of the complete engine tins). Even better if anyone could tell me if a source of aftermarket engine tins can be found.

Thanks in advance,

Tom

No source for new. Best is to figure out what you have & fill in the missing.
Since many of the parts were shared with the T2 motor there is no need to reproduce them. Unless you have $ to burn & are looking for the Bling effect...
I understand that The T4 store has CF units?

BTW I just posted this shortly ago to a similar request rolleyes.gif

There is plenty of old stuff floating around, might need to move the location of the spark plug holes if 1.8 top tin is all that's readily available

Good luck with the build, will she be stock?

When you put the tin back on REMEMBER, pieces 5 and 5a need to go on before the pushrod tubes are installed. I don't think you can install them with the tubes installed. Often they are just left on the motor.

The engine is going to be stock except for minor modifications to 1974 specs (delete air pump from 1975 CA emission). I will look for the parts which have been moved over the years. I have purchased a new cam shaft that's NOS and have put in the stronger con rod bolts. Waiting for Andrade Tabari to modify my valve train to accept 10 mm swivel feet rockers.

Thanks for the heads up. Those pieces are what I was looking for and as I recalled they go at the bottom of the cylinders above the pushrod tubes.

I think I have some of the lower tin pieces that's off a 1974 1.8 motor.
Question from the experts? Is i.8 tin the same as 2.0??

The fuel rail at one end a part was cut off. Is that the fuel pressure regulator?
Krieger
That is your air injection system. The one way valve is cut. This is smog equipment. It looks like the air pump that feeds it is in the box below it.

Dansk is currently in the development process of engine tins. They are investigating the differences between the tins of all the model years and also having to consider the task as it relates to their current tooling of VW products.

Along the line of engine tin discussion are pieces #11 and 12 necessary for cooling purposes or are they just protective?
Thanks

The only difference in the tin is #1 and #2 have different locations for the spark plug holes on a 2.0 vs a 1.7/1.8. The rest of the parts interchange.

Thank you for the info will throw that away since no one would want to include that in the rebuild w00t.gif

Thanks for the clarification.
I have a few pieces #'s 5, 5A, 17 & 24 of a 1974 1.8 motor if tshid914 needs them.

Thanks Tom in Michigan, after you sent me those pieces I found the others except for #32 and 33 in my shed. They will be cleaned and wire brushed then surface rust will be converted with VHT rust converter then painted with POR15Click to view attachment

If Jake & team were able to make those 2 pieces out of composite, then call me impressed & I could fully understand the large sum. rolleyes.gif
On the flip side I seriously doubt those are included in the kit which makes the cost that much harder to swallow.
