I'm changing the oil in my transmission of my 1974 914 2.0. Never done this before. What is this plug? Is it another drain plug or what? Its at the bottom of the transmission just near the transmission rod/forks boot? Thanks, Wayne

No sir.
That is the detent package of balls and springs
Do not remove it

No sir. It is on the side.
Before draining the transmission oil/gear oil, make sure you can also open the fill plug.

No, I forget what that holds in place.

Look for a 17mm Allen bolt.

Side of transmission, passenger side.
Look for two 17mm Allen head bolts
Remove the top one first to ensure you can fill it.
Then remove the bottom one to drain it.

Fill until fluid comes out of the top filler holeā€¦that is full.

Here's a picture of plugs just partially in-place while I was working on the transmission.
