I’m told these Solex carbs came from a stock European delivered 914. Anyone have any info?

negative.

only one euro 914 had carbs - 74 + 75 1.8
40 pdsit.

could be wrong, but those might be off a type 3. maybe.
they sure look familiar from half a lifetime ago. beerchug.gif

or maybe a bus?
or maybe a 411.

i am kind of half interested in these things.
i'd love to have a 74 euro spec parked next to my 74 usa spec.
its an idle thought.
the 75 1.8 euro is the rarest 914 out there?
going off engine numbers only 101 made or was it 99.
but i don't want a 75. its the 74 i am vaguely interested in.
85 hp. almost a 75 USA 2.0
bet there is bugger all left of either year.

mind you that could be something to do with rumoured very early 914s that were made with carbs and found their way to the states as demonstrator test cars. @davep has the story on that? he has mentioned it once before. but the 1.8s had the 40s.

that extra solonoid hanging off one of them is pretty weird though.
nothing ever like that on the aussie twin carb pancake type 3 down here.

they are off a bus.
us version.
i just googled it.

the extra solonoid is something to do with EGR or early pollution gear in USA.

the euro stuff never had a carb like that one with the extra bit hanging off it.
euro 411s ran that as twin carbs as well but not with that weirdness that is on one of them.

this is what the euro 914 1.8s ran.
don't think they are that easy to find.
think the story is normally were on a type 4 VW industrial motor!
(yikes the euro 914 was a truck engine biggrin.gif )
i did a bit of poking around a few years back on the old AN engine front and had this on file. don't think there are any of these carbs floating around in aus. i did have a look around a few years back (was a back up plan in case my L jet did not come out of its coma biggrin.gif ) might be a few in some back yard sheds in germany?

According to Haynes agree.gif

The Solex 40PDSIT AKA 36-40 PDSIT were the carbs used on the 914 AN engines, but the Solex 40 PII-4 used on the 356 & 912 and Super V engines are superior.
The Solex 32-34 PDSIT-2/3 could have been used on VW engine for the 311, 411 and vans.
