2 914s at the pca concours today..a 75 and 76
the 76 was a one owner with 24,000 original miles..and totally perfect in every way..i couldnt believe it
the 75 is owned by tod914 here, 60k miles and very nice and original as well..
then someone had an original six that was kinda butchered, 2.8 liter with rear flares, cage, racing buckets and a 4 point harness...for sale for 14k

Ya aint makin sense punk.
Those LeMans winners were "original". The sixer he saw was "original" at one time as well. With only 1700 some imported to the states and a rumoured 400 of those to be alive I can see his point, but...
...to each his own (ahhh now it looks like he's attempting to sell "his own" to someone else... probably wishes it didn't have those flares when original examples are bringing $20-25k)

oh..i forgot to mention that today i had my first ride EVER in a 914...can you believe that, owned one going on 2 years and never rode in one..
tod gave me a ride, we took the top off and put the pedal down..man was that fun!
these things are glued to the road, much better handling than my 924S...which i thought was good...
i think that is what i needed to get my umph back into my project!

Olav, 20-30k is going rate for a nice, original /6, surely.
A minty 24k/m /4, as the one pictured, is around.. $18-20k... on a good day.
I paid for a car like that once... and I got something quite different.

Well if you narrow the field to super low mileage cars I guess there are only a handful of those around and I guess the price can be pretty darn high.
I suspect a car in non concors condition but in great shape in general for a six would come in around 15 - 20K.

If I had my way, that would be the kind of original six I'd like to get my hands on. Something somebody already screwed with enough to make me not want to take it back to stock, so I could screw with it to my taste without feeling guilty about it. And it's still an original six!

I think one always will feel guilty.
I have all my original parts so I can put it back

True, but the flares on that one would require replacement sheetmetal, and that's a lot of work to get right again.

There was an astonishing refinished 70 /6 on ebay about... 3 years ago, 2.2 update, and stock stock all over, with steels. Silver, everything new, everything. Complete restoration, on a low miles car.
Was 15k open, went to like 17 or something... what a shame.

Thanks for posting Aaron. Fun day at the show today. Glad you enjoyed the ride in the 914... Alittle inspriration to work on your project
. Dave's maluga red teener is absolutely stunning. It's really a remarkable car. Was quite a treat to see it at the show. I can only imagine a handfull left being in that kind of condition.

Dood, that was three years ago, when the same /4s that are suddenly 7k were 4k tops.
The car I am talking about would be an easy $25k car, not a survivor, but a 99pt resto, better than mint.
No options, steels..

A car I sold in early '04 for $12K went for $14 less than a year later and $17 (or was it $18?) a couple of months ago. Original, but far from "very nice". Holes all over from AC, weak repaint, repro. "fuchs". Just as with early 911's and 914-4's, the price of admission is rising rapidly.
I recall two in the $22k range in the last couple of months but don't have a link.

what is funny about comments like that is 30 years ago, heck, even 20 years ago, not many people gave a hoot that is was original, it was nothing really special way back then...now people see a "molested" 914/6 and get bent out of shape
how boring would it be if all the original cars had never been modified???? Think of the all the 914/6 race cars owned by individuals that would have never been built......
yes, you have the freedom of calling that /6 butchered, but don't think that it does not offend the current owner or perhaps a previous owner that built the car years ago....end of rant

It's the same with anything the supply drops off on, and the demand moves up.
914s have been below 'off the radar' forever.
In 1982, one could buy a 1959 Les Paul Std. for between 2500-4500, and those same guitars go for between $50-$200k+ now.
A collector car, is different than a driver. A NICE driver /6 is in the $20s.. a collector /6 could go for... 2x that, and more.

I guess you didn't see the 6 conversion that sold for $29k?
The Excellence Market report is CA skewed. It's a decent baseline, but it's not the gospel on 914 prices.
If I could buy excellent 73 &74 2.0's for $6500, I'd do it all day long and make an easy $2000, and sell every single one.
From my limited experience, those who confront high 914 prices haven't ever paid more than $3500 for a 914.
Ever do a quality restoration on a 914??? This is a factor in the pricing.

yes. i participated in a few. not once (!) have i seen the owner recoup his money in a sale. not even close. usually not even half.
you can't restore a 914 for profit ...
