Another surprising tweak in engine performance and responsiveness today.

While I've been breaking the engine in, on my sweet 123igntion Dizzy I've been running a conservative, mild advance curve with a max. advance of factory 27 degrees reached at 3000 rpm. I got it of a thread here on the board.

This morning I loaded the 123 dizzy with a more agressive performance curve that replicates that of the Bosch 050 dizzy, hits 29 deg. advance at 2500 rpm and peaks at 30 deg. at 3000.

What a surprise! Noticeably improved throttle response, torque and acceleration that I had not expected to be able to sense with my butt dyno. But sense it I did!

As did RickB who joined me in his 944 for two back-to-back 45 minute drives in new-to-him twisties from my place to Amelia County, VA.

Quite certain this is the last performance boost I'll see - but boy am I happy. This little 2056 is way beyond my expectations and I could not be happier. Silky smooth running too.

Sorry I am not a big picture-taker - wish I had some photo to show but you cannot photo what I'm trying to explain though.

I can do another one of these..... piratenanner.gif

Wow. Thank you. One of nicest posts I've received.

But you should see my thread on restoring my 1972 Triumph Bonneville motorcycle started in 2010. 5-Star rated, almost 300,000 views, over 2,000 replies, 70 participants and covers 10 years of ownership, restoration, repairs, troubles, and segue's into other areas like my wife's "Best in World" lasagna recipe!

I restore and collect old Triumph motorcyles too.......but no more. Only non-911 Porsches.......
Here if you are interested:

only have left my mint '72 T120 and mint all-original '74 T150 Trident. Both start on 1 kick hot or cold no matter how long sitting, and run like new.

Happy Father's Day to all the Dad's out there - I'm father of 8 - 5 amazing sons, 3 amazing daughters, 9 degrees and they all did it without Dad's finances....today was a great day together.

A month overdue in posting these interior pics - been driving the car too much!

Got the carpet installed a month ago. I wanted a lighter color than most I could find since the interior is a dark brown. I tried a dark brown carpet from several sources but it did not add a positive effect to the interior - this lighter color perked things up a lot - IMHO. I really like it.

So, here it is, albeit pics taken in the shade....may do some in sun later......

And a shot of Ruby with her top off.......golly I love this car. Now my Daily Driver and all still like a new car. Shifted to 87 octane and no knocking or pinging yet.....

Best regards to all,

What a fantastic car and a great story. My ‘72 is also Ma lava Red. Spill some paint and it looks like you are bleeding. Your car came out looking perfect.

What a fantastic car. Paint looks perfect!

The paint job is indeed superb and exceptional - but not perfect. Found a few flaws/imperfections......that my painter is happy to correct. He said he thought caus of actual defects was in the paint itself.

What was incredible was the low cost - too low for me even to publish.

Taking my original paint Alpine White '87 944 S to him in 2 weeks for a complete repaint. Repairs on driver's door and hood did poor job of matching original paint, few dents/dings that need fixing, bumpers badly need painting.

Can't wait to see it looking new - it looks great now - from a distance.....you can see mismatch on driver's door in this pic......and ding on rocker panel from lift arm below rear vertical door seam.

Love that color red!
Gatornapper
So do I!

I've said it before, but it bears repeating; Only red I know that looks better in shade and low light than in the sun.

Car had been repainted in LA in Scarlet Red which I did not like, although it was a very good repaint. I couldn't wait to repaint it to original Malaga Red.

Very cool to see the updates and the 914 looks amazing!

Yes, it feels good to drive your 914 more than wrench on it.

Dan -

Boy, you nailed it! Love this car so much! More FUN to drive than any of my Porsches.

RichB45 followed me today in his '79 911 SC restomod in some area twisties I had never showed him before. We had about an hour and a half of fun driving on rural twisty Virginia roads - hills, mostly forest, lots of road with no lines. He always tells me that my leading in the 914 keeps him from killing himself in his 300+ hp 911. It may be true - he has a heavy foot. I do too but it is restrained by my not wanting to kill someone and not wanting a ticket for reckless.

Good example was today in very dark forested super-twisty section with very few houses all of a sudden there is a young mother walking her child on the road! She was on right facing us, and on the side of the road. Fortunately we saw her soon enough to brake and give her wide berth and slow down. But road was narrow and if a car had been coming toward us - I'm not sure we could have missed her or stopped in time. Scary.

Another note: I love the gearing in the 901 tranny. Every gear seems perfect - wouldn't change a one. Can do so much in 3rd & 4th. Can't say that about my 928 or 944 S.

I have wiring in place to put in gauges soon, but will do that at my leisure. Oil Pressure gauge, Voltmeter, Clock. All VDO black. Just need to connect wiring to gauges and mount them in below-dash panel.
