OK, so I suck at searches! blink.gif

I recall there being an option but not finding anything that looks factory but utilizes LED lights. I'm a little tired of messing with fussy bulbs that are dimly lit to begin with.

I recently upgraded my driving lights to LED and WOW - driving.gif piratenanner.gif
Needless to say I'm hooked on bright lights and my car will never be a show concours winner so why not. However, it at least has to look somewhat stock!

Photo just for fun. One light LED one not so much

Thank you for your consideration Click to view attachment

Looks like a good place for me to start. Speaking of which, I need an alternator dry.gif

Search this linked page (control-F) for "LED". The page is a sticky at the top of the Garage forum so it is easy to find:

I only did the exterior bulbs in the 914. I did everything but the dash on the daily. All thru Amazon -- Ebay too risky for quality -- superbrightleds are pricey and tend to be not-the-newest offerings.

The 914 got Auxlight bulbs

The Chevy got Yorkim and Sealight X2, and misc for the interior.

I didn't have the hyper flash relay issue others did. Maybe it's because I have a 75, maybe it's because I have a good working stock flasher relay. confused24.gif

I kept all the standard fittings, and replaced bulbs with LED equivalents.

Spoke's LED boards are incredible. Top of the list is to do the brake lights first. They improve visibility to others 100%. The Euro style front indicators let you run them as you daytime driving lights when you don't want to flip your headlights up.

Ditto for me. I have full exterior sets on both of mine and consider them a big safety upgrade.

I modified the fog lights to be on full time as driving lights. All bulbs other than the alternator and heating control have been replaced with direct replacement plug-in LEDs. Much of my motivation was DC current availability with a new AC system installation. Two large condenser fans require about 9A each. Reducing power requirements elsewhere helps compensate.

I'm planning to add a couple diodes to turn on all markers from the modified fog light controls. The car will be fully lit other than lifting the headlights at all times while driving.

I changed the running lights to always be on when the key is ON. Used a relay to power the running lights so the running light power did not go through the ignition key.

The relay connection is described here:
DRL on a 914

If you decide to use diodes to power the markers, make sure the diodes are schottky barrier diodes. They have much lower on voltage than standard silicon diodes.

I used the @Spoke alternative and so far, flawless. I got in very early, so my front don’t do the running light thing. Highly recommend.
